Imagine standing in front of a sleek electric vehicle, keys in hand, ready to embark on a journey across intriguing landscapes. The road ahead promises both adventure and challenge. This was us, at the start of our travels, facing a choice: convenience or conviction?
We chose conviction.
Our decision to rent an electric vehicle wasn’t just about transportation—it was a rolling statement of our values. We believe in preserving our planet, and in being the change we wish to see, as best as we can. But beliefs untested are just words. We were about to put ours to the test.
Sweden, our first stop, greeted us with a network of charging stations that seemed promising—until we tried to use them. Apps restricted to EU citizens, malfunctioning credit card readers, and the constant anxiety of a depleting battery became our daily companions. After days of trial and error, we finally found our rhythm, even if it meant going the extra mile—literally—to charge our car.
Then came Korea, a new country with new challenges. At Nami Island, surrounded by charging stations we couldn’t access, the temptation to switch to a conventional car was strong. Our trip to the East Coast delayed, our plans in disarray, we faced a crossroads. Give up or double down?
We doubled down.
Each setback was a chance to reaffirm our commitment. Because that’s what commitment is—not a one-time choice, but a decision you make over and over, especially when it’s difficult.
In these moments of frustration (and after many hours of solution-finding), a profound question emerged: What do we stand for? Not what do we do now, but what principles guide our actions when no one is watching and the easy path beckons?
Our electric car journey became a metaphor for life’s bigger challenges. It’s easy to advocate for change from the comfort of our homes, but stepping out and living that change? That’s where real transformation begins.
Every kilometer we drove in our electric vehicle became a small victory, a testament to the power of perseverance (acquiring a Korean credit card also helped immensely). We weren’t just traveling through countries; we were traveling through our own convictions, testing their strength, and emerging stronger.
This journey has taught us that our values are not defined by our words, but by our actions in the face of adversity. It’s shown us that true commitment often comes with inconvenience, frustration, and doubt. But it’s in overcoming these challenges that we find our true selves.
As we continue our travels, we carry with us not just memories of beautiful landscapes, but the profound realization that every choice we make is a brushstroke on the canvas of our lives. We have the power to paint a future aligned with our values, one decision at a time.
So, we challenge you: What do you stand for? And more importantly, how far are you willing to go to stand by those beliefs?
Remember, it’s not about having an easy journey. It’s about having a journey that’s true to who you are and what you believe in.
Join us on this journey. Not just of travel, but of living our values out loud. Because when we commit to our beliefs, even in the face of challenges, we don’t just change our own lives—we spark the potential to change the world.
